Hey! Listen!

Here he is, in one of his most groundbreaking and phenomenal forms, Link from Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. The Zelda series had been quite successful on NES, but nothing prepared us for just how awesome Ocarina was. Builder Julius von Brunk brings us this version of young Link, armed with his Deku shield and what looks to be the Kokiri sword. He looks totally ready for action, and I'm totally ready to play.

Hey Arnold!

Hey Arnold never got much traction in this house. I remember it being on from time to time, but it always seemed to be because we had finished watching something else, like Samurai Jack Or Rug Rats, and had just no bothered to turn off the TV when we settled down with a Tamagotchi or some other distraction. That doesn't mean I didn't recognize this fantastic build of the title character by Julius von Brunk instantly, it's pretty much perfect.

Iron Giant

If you haven't seen it, you must. The Iron Giant is one of the most underrated animated features ever produced. It sort of flew under the radar when it was released, but has grown a loyal following ever since. Builder Obedient Machine is clearly a fan, and has built this charming tribute. But he didn't build just one, he and his son both built one together, that's pretty awesome.

The Lich

Hey, it's Sweet Pig Trunks, I mean the Lich! Builder Tim Lydy shows off another character of his brilliant collection of Adventure Time MOCs. They were originally created for Blocks Magazine but will be on display at BrickWorld Chicago so you can see them in person. Just be careful of the Well of Power, I understand it's full of toxic waste...and despair.

Yeah Baby!

Wow, 20 years. Yes, it's been 2 decades since Austin Powers made his screen debut. It's a work of absolute genius, tempered with sophomoric humor (in other words, perfect). Builder Ochre Jelly celebrates the anniversary with two brilliant busts of Austin and Dr. Evil. Fun fact: this was one of my 2 year old son's favorite movies at the time. We had to stand by to skip ahead at more questionable moments, but we all knew this movie word for word after watching it twice a day for months.

Finn & Jake

Not that long ago in our house you could depend on a familiar theme song in the background and at a key moment a boisterous "Adventure Time!" from both the TV and one or both of my boys. They were big fans, and while I never really watched the show, I heard plenty of it over the speakers of our old minivan as the boys watched the DVD in the back seats. Builder Tim Lydy brings us a fanciful scene with Finn riding an enlarged and very long legged Jake. Cartoon logic at it's very best.

REJECTZ

What you hear "Disney Princess" what do you think of? A classic fairytale, with a lost glass slipper, or a houseful of dwarves? A headstrong young woman setting out to make her mark on the world? Poofy dresses and glittery hair? How about a band of horribly deformed ladies only a mother could love? That's Ochre Jelly's take on it, and that's the magic of Disney.

Jango Fett

While I'm no fan of the prequels there are a few diamonds in the rough. I didn't care for most of the new characters introduced, but I found Jango Fett compelling. And seeing Boba's origin story was interesting, if a bit weird. I like this Jango bust by builder tankm, by utilizing some key parts from the Constraction figure, mainly the helmet, chest plate and shoulders, and doing some very clever System building, the two are combined to great effect.

Hellboy

It's everyone's favorite hell-spawn with a heart of gold, Hellboy. I'm a fan of this movie, and the fact that I played a completely insignificant role in it's making fills me with strangely misplaced pride. According to the builder vitreolum, he really enjoys building these busts. I find that encouraging because I certainly enjoy seeing them (and of course sharing them with you).

Who You Gonna Call?

We've seen a lot of BrickHeadz in recent weeks, clearly the form factor resonates with the community. Most of them don't do much for me personally, but I do really dig these from builder bricks.life.idea. Of course it helps that they're based on one of my all time favorite movies, Ghostbusters. There's more characters too, including Dana and Louis, click though to check them out.

Journey

Builder and BrickNerd alum Melan-E is a huge fan of the game Journey, and to celebrate she has build this gorgeous figure of the main character of the game. I've never played Journey, mainly because I don't have a Playstation. But if I did I have no doubt this would be in my collection, it's totally my kind of game. This beautiful figure has the sweeping lines and curves of the game character, or the flow-ness as Mel puts it, and looks ready to glide over the dunes.

Our Princess

Star Wars Celebration is currently underway in Orlando Florida, and I'm not there. But I am tuning in periodically to check out the live stream on StarWars.com. Yesterday there was a very heartwarming and loving tribute to Carrie Fisher, with an introduction by George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, followed by a touching video and then John Williams himself conducting the Orlando Symphony Orchestra performing Princess Leia's Theme (I'm not crying, you're crying). Obviously I'm not the only one thinking of my princess, our princess during this celebration. Builder Miro78 put together this wonderful Leia in her Hoth costume. Her jaunty attitude comes through perfectly.

We Can't Repel Awesomeness Of This Magnitude

The Mon Calamari are a curious lifeform, with a bipedal, humanoid body and a squid-like head. They also have a sixth sense for not only assessing the strength of nearby weapons, but also detecting traps. Very handy in dungeon raids or say, assaulting a giant space weapon with an armada. Another fine character build from builder Djokson.

Admiral Ackbar

Rising Star

My little sisters used to do this kind of stuff when we were kids. Get all dolled up, break out a "microphone" (it's truly stunning how many things can be substituted for an actual microphone) and belt out a few tunes. It appears the daughter of builder(s) vir-a-cocha loves doing this, and they immortalized the moment with this adorable MOC.

Samurai Jack & Aku

Long about 2001, when Samurai Jack premiered, I had a son who was the perfect age for Cartoon Network and a boy about to be born (and both had a dad who never grew up), so CN was on at our house all the time. The animation style and production quality of Samurai Jack always made it a favorite, and if it was on we were watching. So this marvelous pair of busts of Jack and Aku by builder chris office instantly caught my eye, and a follow on Flickr.

Eleven

I can't help but look upon this MOC by Ochre Jelly with a certain amount of pride. Just yesterday I was scrolling through old messages to my wife and reading correspondences from BrickCon last year and I came upon one that said "Getting Iain hooked on Stranger Things". If you haven't seen the series you need to, it's awesome. This is Eleven (011), the young heroine from the series. And now thanks to this I'm craving waffles, thanks Iain.

A Tale Of Two Droopys

He's a Tex Avery classic, Droopy. Everyone's favorite slow talking, perpetually downtrodden dog. In a little bit of friendly rivalry builders J.B.F and 74louloute have both taken a crack at him, and the results are brilliant. While I prefer J.B.F's Droopy, the addition of the Big Bad Wolf and Red Hot Riding Hood certainly make 74louloute's pretty awesome too.
